December 31, 2009

To help you learn the MLK vocabulary, I’ve recorded it and posted a link for you to listen to. I read the English word, the synonyms, opposites, and word forms, and the German translation. If you have an MP3 player, you might want to download this file to listen to the vocabulary on the bus (or wherever!)…

Grade 8 “The Sit-ins”

December 31, 2009

For Tuesday, Jan. 12th, be sure to read Chapter 12, “The Sit-ins” in your book.

After the Montgomery Bus Boycott, MLK and southern Blacks knew that they could change the Jim Crow laws. They also knew that they could do it peacefully through passive resistance. Next, they decided to fight segregation in restaurants. They decided to fight the laws with sit-ins at lunch counters. Again, it worked!

As you read Chapter 12, think about this question: What made the sit-ins so successful?
